HOW TO PREPARE FOR SURGERY

Why is this so important?

Food, drinks, gum, and mints stimulate the patient’s stomach, making them more likely to vomit during surgery. If a patient vomits during surgery, the vomit can go into their lungs and cause major health complications and may result in death.


Keep your child with you all day before the surgery, so you can be sure

Keep your child with you all day before the surgery, so you can be sure that they did not eat or drink anything.


You must be able to confirm that your child has not had anything to eat or drink before surgery.

This means that you cannot send your child to daycare, school, etc. on the day of surgery.


We will contact you with special instructions the day before surgery.

What to Bring on the Day of Surgery

  • Valid photo ID
  • Patient’s insurance card
  • Custody/Guardianship documents
  • If the patient uses any of the following items, please bring them to the appointment:
  • Inhaler
  • CPAP machine
  • Oxygen tank
  • The patient should wear loose-fitting clothes that are comfortable
  • Patients who are under 6 years old or less than 60 pounds must go home in a car seat
  • Do not allow the patient to bring jewelry, watches, or valuables

  • Please notify us immediately if there are any changes to the patient’s health prior to their appointment including cough, cold or fever.
  • Please know that this is an all-day process. The appointment will take approximately 4-5 hours. Parent or Guardian must stay at the facility the entire time. Patient must be under parental supervision,

  • Cell phone use is not permitted in the back of the surgery center.
  • After surgery, call your regular dentist to schedule a follow up appointment. 
  • Please complete registration forms prior to appointment. If filled out at appointment, forms take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.
